
The South Atlantic, especially the Caribbean is a shooting gallery for hurricanes. Each and every year islands and main lands of North and South America get battered. So far, it hasn’t been that bad in the 2010 hurricane period. Nonetheless, more storm systems have gathered enough force in the past few weeks to become legitimate threats. There is special concern over tropical storm Igor. Igor has been reclassified as Hurricane Igor. Bermuda is in the projected path of Igor, but Igor is nevertheless within the middle of the ocean. The path of Hurricane Igor isn’t entirely known yet, but landfall in the United States doesn’t seem likely.
Hurricane Igor increasing quickly
Hurricane Igor, formerly tropical storm Igor, had grown big enough for hurricane status by Sept. 11. According to CNN, it had started as a Category Two. Igor was then graded up to a Category Four. It is nevertheless a Category Four storm in the middle of the Atlantic. The nearest land masses to Igor are the Leeward Islands, and Igor is hundreds of miles away and heading in the direction of Bermuda. Tropical storm Julia is also within the Caribbean. Julia is nevertheless only a tropical storm, however briefly was a Category One hurricane.
Igor has eyes onto it
The storm is apparently keeping to the middle of the ocean, according to the Los Angeles Times. Hurricane Igor is not heading explicitly for a land mass. It’s not known if the storm will make landfall anywhere. It is, though, moving in the direction of Bermuda. There is a strong chance Igor will become a Category Five storm. So far, no major advisories or warnings have been issued concerning the storm, however that may change soon. Hurricane Earl briefly approached the East coast of the United States and Canada, however advancing back out to sea.
Some time before 2010 hurricane season is over
The hurricane period lasts half the year, from June until the end of November. Some areas were badly affected, however this year’s period hasn’t been terribly bad. The Gulf Coast of Mexico was battered by Hurricane Alex. Islands within the Caribbean have seen flooding from several hurricanes. The bulk of fatalities due to hurricanes this year were caused by rip currents from hurricane weather conditions systems, and fortunately there were only a few.
